Homeowners across Louth and Meath are being urged to revalue their homes before the November 7th deadline, as rising property prices could mean higher Local Property Tax (LPT) bills next year.
According to tax experts at Orbitus, fears are growing nationwide that the surge in house prices since 2021 will push many into higher LPT bands.
Tax partner Tommy Walsh said “Substantial increases in property prices over the last four years has led to fears amongst homeowners that their home could trigger a higher LPT bill for them.”
An Orbitus analysis found the median national home price has jumped 36% since November 2021 — with some counties seeing increases of up to 48%.
Mr Walsh warned that rising valuations could add €100 or more to annual bills for those moving up a tax band, and that recent changes give local authorities the power to raise LPT rates by up to 25% from 2027.
He said “Many homeowners are understandably concerned that given the extent of house price inflation across the country, they may now be facing a much steeper LPT bill.”
With property prices continuing to climb across the North East, homeowners are being advised to review their home valuations carefully before the November deadline.
