Night Moves brings late-night Culture Night programme across Drogheda

Night Moves Culture Night brought free music, film, projections, workshops and late-opening galleries to venues across Drogheda as Culture Night continued after dark.

Produced by Droichead Arts Centre, the programme began from 7.30pm and brought together local promoters, curators and artists in spaces including McHugh’s, Odd Mollies, Coffee Box, Graft Bru Hub, Barlow House and Droichead Arts Centre.

All events were free to attend.

Light installations across the town

Night Pools brought video projection and light sculpture into the streets, with two large outdoor works, Urban Love and Wilde Love, projected onto the former Choice building and the former Methodist Church.

The trail also included lantern installations in shopfronts and culminated in a large light sculpture at the Methodist Church.

The work was created by artist Vivienne Byrne with Breda Marron and Yvonne Dowd Gardiner, supported by Droichead’s Outreach and Community Curator Kieran Gallagher.

Live music at Coffee Box

At Coffee Box on George’s Street, Night Moves Café was curated by SJ McArdle.

The line-up featured Greene and Shine with Mary Greene and Noel Shine, Dagogo Hart, Peadar Connolly and Julian Knows.

Film at Droichead Arts Centre

The Night Moves Culture Night programme was designed to build on Droichead Arts Centre’s ongoing late-night cultural programme and create more activity across the town after dark.

At Droichead Arts Centre on Stockwell Street, Mismantler, a film by Andrew Keogh and Steve Stapleton with music by Nurse with Wound, was presented by 33-45.

The work was described by organisers as a dark, stream-of-consciousness film experience.

Hardcore punk at McHugh’s

At The Watchtower in McHugh’s, Spiral, curated by Jasmine Hastings and Kelly Hoyne, presented a four-band hardcore punk show.

Leeds band Pleasure headlined, with support from No Magic, Breakeven and Instruction.

There were also stalls selling merchandise, zines, tapes and records from independent distros and labels.

Might Moves presents Night Trad Trails music at McHughs with Droichead Arts Centre and Boyne Trad Festival.

New Drogheda music at Odd Mollies

Blas Do Theanga presented a night of original music at Odd Mollies, with performances from Drogheda artists Sophie Moon, KIDD and Téga.

Techno at Graft Bru Hub

Drogheda Groove Movement brought Sunil Sharpe to Graft Bru Hub on Abbey Lane, with support sets from Emore and Erik.

Sharpe is a co-founder of Give Us The Night, the volunteer-led group campaigning for a stronger nightlife sector in Ireland.

Community gathering at Barlow House

At Barlow House, Community Ties brought Cailleach Books and Adroit Press together for an evening of community activity.

Cailleach Books also opened its self-assembled bookshop, giving local residents, activists and artists a chance to browse independent publications and take part in informal discussion.

Trad sessions across Drogheda

Boyne Trad Fest hosted Night Trad Trails across Barney Mac’s, Clarkes and McHugh’s.

The sessions featured Gary Curley on button accordion, Rachael Dooley on harp, Enda Dooley on banjo, Oisín Bradley on concertina and other musicians.

Galleries stay open late

Droichead Arts Centre Gallery on Stockwell Street and The Kiosk Arts Project also stayed open late as part of the programme.
