A new podcast highlighting Drogheda’s growing underground music scene has launched, shining a spotlight on emerging artists from the town and the wider north east region.
Brú Sounds is the latest project from Drogheda native David Rossiter and aims to give local musicians a dedicated platform to share their original work. The podcast explores new releases, features artist conversations, recommends upcoming gigs and introduces listeners to new music discoveries, all drawing from the creative pulse of Drogheda and nearby towns and villages.
The title Brú Sounds takes its inspiration from Brú na Bóinne, the UNESCO World Heritage landscape located a short distance from Drogheda. The name reflects the deep cultural roots of the area while also signalling creativity, continuity and a strong sense of place.
David said the idea for the podcast emerged after returning home following several years living in the UK and the north of Ireland. “When I moved back, it became clear that something really exciting was happening locally. Even with the challenges the town faces, the music scene is thriving. The standard of music being produced here stands up to some of the strongest underground scenes elsewhere in the country, especially around DIY spaces like The Watchtower at McHughs.”
He said the aim of Brú Sounds is to help more people discover local talent while also promoting live music events. “I wanted to create something fun that showcases the musicians making great work here and helps spread the word about the gigs happening in town. When The Watchtower is busy, it offers such an intimate and enjoyable live music experience.”
The podcast will be released on a regular basis and includes a mix of original tracks, interviews and recommendations. David described the project as a hands-on DIY effort and a learning experience, noting that Brú Sounds is available on all major podcast platforms as well as SoundCloud. He also hopes it will grow into a community focused space and encourages musicians and artists to get in touch via Instagram to submit music.
The first two episodes feature four artists from the local scene. Episode one focuses on David San Clair and CABL, while episode two highlights Nixer and Peadar Connolly. David said
