If there was an allowance for a young Dad carving his way in the world of folk music whilst living day to day in the blue-collar world, Seán Mathews appears to have qualified by consistently bringing out new music over the past five years.
Seán’s last project “Welcome to Ballsgrove” received RTE Radio 1 playlist attention and gained many advocates in the world of Irish Folk Music.
Well established in Drogheda, his debut Album “Dreaming is Allowed” featured a track called “Days of our Prime” which featured in a video made by the St Patricks Day organising committee.
His live streaming during the pandemic also built up a loyal group of followers from around the world.
His latest offering, “The Charcoal Dawn Sessions” is a stripped back and live take of four songs from his bursting catalogue of already well gigged songs yet to be recorded.
Recorded with Aaron Fahy, it is meant to be an authentic presentation of what it would be like to sit in a room with Seán playing.
This EP was released today, Friday 19th January 2024 and the official launch evening is scheduled to take place in Sarsfields Lounge on the Bank Holiday Sunday 4th February 2024.
The Charcoal Dawn Sessions features a version of the Jimmy Webb song “The Highwayman”, which has become a feature of Seán’s live set.
It also features “The Years are flying by” celebrating the birth of his Sister Jolene’s first child. Jolene has collaborated with her partner, the renown Drogheda Artist Rodney Thornton, on the Album cover (see above).
In a world gripped by hunger for success this release comes only with a promise of a passionate and genuine live performance for his audience. There’s a sneak preview for you in the video below.
