New Car Registrations Jump in Louth & Meath as EV Sales Surge

 
The number of new car registrations in County Louth has increased by 6.33%  for the first seven months of this year.
 
A total of 2518 new vehicles were sold from January to July compared to 2368 for the same period in 2024.
 
Over in County Meath the number of new car registrations was also up, an increase of 5.91% In the first six months of this year 3638 cars were registered in the Royal County compared to 3435 last year.
 
The figures were released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) which also confirmed that new car registrations nationally were also up 4.3% – 26787 for the month of July.
 
The SIMI also confirmed that the Hyundai Tucson was the top selling car in July while Toyota was the top selling car brand so far this year.
 
The top selling new electric car nationwide in July was the Volkswagen ID.4
 
There were 451 new electric cars registered in Louth for the first seven months of the year while 794 were registered in Meath.
 
Brian Cooke, the SIMI Director General said:” New battery electric registrations increased by 57% when compared to July 2024, with 4,913 units sold .
 
” Year to date they have reached  18,542, a 34% increase on the same period last year and are now back to 2023 levels.
 
” Notably this means that we have surpassed the 175,000 EV target (BEV & PHEV) combined for 2025 contained in the Government’s Climate Action Plan.
 
” This important landmark on the road to electrification could not have been achieved without the significant levels of Government incentives.If we want to continue this momentum  these supports must be maintained and extended well beyond the end of the year.”
