The word cancer used to send shivers up people’s spines, a diagnosis of “the big C” as people used to refer to it, was tantamount to a death sentence but nowadays there are treatments available that were unheard of until quite recently and we in Drogheda are lucky to have one of the top Oncology Centres in the country at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
The Northeast Cancer Research and Education Trust (NECRET) is a support organisation of the Lourdes Hospital Oncology/Haematology Unit, its role is to raise funds to improve facilities for cancer patients, to fund ongoing research and also to provide information to patients and their families.

Every year for the best part of a decade NECRET has organised a free Cancer information Day for patients, their families and anyone else who has concerns and this year’s public information support day on next Saturday afternoon, September 28th from 1.30 to 4.30 pm in the City North Hotel and Conference Centre.
The emphasis of this free event will be on health, wellness and wellbeing, it will take a person-centred interactive workshop format for those affected by and living with cancer.
There will be a series of five workshops, each lasting about 20 minutes, on the
following topics:
- Eating well
- Keeping moving
- Staying healthy
- Accessing the supports I need
- Feeling good, looking good
There will also be an opportunity for participants to sample massage, reiki and other complementary therapies.
Get your FREE tickets including refreshments, complimentary therapies and tickets for a prize draw by messaging the NECRET Facebook page or e-mailing info@necret.ie
Registration is not required prior to the event. The organisers look forward to meeting you on the day.
