The summer sunshine is here, ice creams are in great demand, the mood is up and the town of Drogheda is getting excited for the biggest summer festival that we have seen in the summer since the Fleadh.
On Saturday 22nd June, the town will be thronged with thousands of visitors from near and far, coming to experience music, song, drama and dance. The Music at The Gate event is a key part of the Boyne Mid-Summer Festival and it’s return will be widely welcomed.
With groups from Meath, Louth, Dublin and Monaghan, the Music at the gate event has something for everyone. Founder Darragh Ó hÉiligh tells us more.
“This Music at the Gate follows the same loved format as previous years with both morning and evening events. From 12pm to 3pm the very popular morning show and session will take place where dozens of musicians, singers and dancers participate to make Drogheda buzz with the sound of live music.
“We are always delighted to showcase local groups alongside popular artists but of course, as always, people of all ages and levels are encouraged to participate as well during our open hour from 2 to 3pm.
“After a break, Music at the Gate will resume again from 6:30 to 9pm with four very, very special guests. We’re thrilled to welcome The Faa side, Kidkast, Darren Lynch and the very popular Dabilla to the stage for a great evening of entertainment.”
Since the foundation of Music at the Gate back in September 2017, Darragh has organised regular concerts at the foot of St. Laurence’s Gate. The purpose is two-fold. Firstly, to celebrate the closing of the historic gate to traffic and reclaim it as a civic space. Secondly, to invite local performers to bring music to the streets of Drogheda on a regular basis.

Taking place on Saturday from 7.00pm to 8:30pm at Saint Laurence’s Gate, this free event is open to everyone.
