McDonald’s in Drogheda has been served with a closure order after rodent droppings were discovered in a storage unit at the side of the restaurant.
The order, issued on August 27th by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), followed an inspection that found droppings on shelving and food equipment, as well as structural gaps that could allow pests to enter.
Hygiene materials stored in the unit posed a further risk of cross-contamination.
The closure order has not yet been lifted.
The outlet, operated by Glencullen Restaurant Ltd, is located at The Waterfront on Rathmullen Road.
Seven other food businesses were also hit with closure orders in August, including Wau Asian Cuisine in Meath.
FSAI chief executive Greg Dempsey described the findings as “disappointing,” warning that while most food businesses take safety seriously, a small number continue to breach basic standards.
