The Mayor of Drogheda has condemned the lack of investment for the town in the new 24.3 Billion national transport investment plan unveiled yesterday ( Wednesday).
Cllr Michelle Hall said Drogheda gets mentioned once with the new Dart + service at McBride Station, and that’s it.
There is no reference to a second train station for the northside of the town or re-opening of Dunleer station to relieve the pressure on commuters and traffic congestion in the town.
She fumed:” The only mention of Drogheda in the Transport Sectoral Investment Plan is for a platform already planned at McBride Station. Do any government TDs actually listen to people in Drogheda?
” It is shocking that no ‘ potential ‘ is even mentioned for a platform at North Drogheda or re-opening Dunleer train station.
” Securing Ireland’s Future doesn’t include the largest town in Ireland apart from the DART+ which hopefully won’t cause delays on route.”
Louth Labour TD, Ged Nash says that the dire transport infrastructure needs of Drogheda have been ignored by the government in its latest transport investment plan.
Deputy Nash explained: “The government has published a transport investment plan under the National Development Plan Review 2025 and reading through the document, I was shocked to find just a single reference to Drogheda in the plan.
“To add insult to injury, the single reference there is to our town in the plan is non-committal at best and talks about the “potential” to commence works on a new platform at Drogheda Station to make way for the Dart+ Coastal North extension, before 2030. This is a reheat of a previously announced project and the Dart+ project itself is already behind by a year.
The Labour TD said: “The government’s single passing reference to Ireland’s largest town in this plan is an indication it is clueless as to the dire need for improved transport infrastructure in our town.
