Mayor of Drogheda, Cllr. Paddy McQuillan, met with the Moldovan Ambassador to Ireland, Larisa MiculeÈ› yesterday, Thursday 19h of September, to discuss the use of the Civic Offices by the Moldovan community in Drogheda as a polling station for the upcoming Moldovan election and referendum.
The meeting touched on many issues of common interest, including Moldova’s hopes to join the EU, the significant Moldovan community living in the wider Drogheda area and the potential to strengthen economic links between Drogheda and Moldova.
At the meeting the Ambassador, who was accompanied by a number of Moldovan residents in Drogheda, and the Mayor finalised arrangements for the newly opened Louth County Council offices in Fair Street to be used on 20th October as a polling station for the upcoming Moldovan presidential election and their referendum on accession into the European Union.
Following the meeting, Mayor, Cllr. Paddy McQuillan said he was delighted to welcome Ambassador Miculet to the newly opened Civic Buildings in Drogheda.
“I particularly welcome Louth County Council facilitating the local Moldovan community by allowing the use of the Civic offices for their upcoming election and referendum, which are of upmost importance to their country.”
