Major Funding Approved for New Walking Trail in Drogheda’s Historic Dale

Drogheda is to get a new walking trail through the historic Dale.

There is a temporary path there at the moment running from the back of Bullies Acre down through the fields, the Dale and onto the Marsh road.

Now Louth County Council has earmarked 230,000 euros for the project for next year’s Budget.

Local Cllr Pio Smith revealed:” In yesterday’s LCC Budget 230,000 was included in the capital expenditure for the Dale. I have been working with the public realm team in Louth County Council to create a Dale Trail to link up the historic area with the town centre.

“Hopefully we can secure the land required for this project.”

The Dale is a valley that runs below St Mary’s Anglican Church and was overgrown and neglected for years.

It has slowly in recent years been restored. A small number of families live in the area which is one of the closest places to the town centre.
