Work is progressing on 58 new social homes in Louth Village, with the first properties due to be advertised to eligible applicants from the middle of September.
Louth County Council members and officials visited the new An Mullach development on Wednesday, 2nd September to see progress on the scheme, which will provide homes for individuals and families in Mid-Louth.
The development includes 28 two-bedroom homes, 24 three-bedroom homes and five four-bedroom homes, along with a five-bedroom supported living house which will be managed by St John of God.
Construction began in December 2024 and the development is now expected to be handed over to Louth County Council in October.
The first homes will be advertised through the Council’s Choice Based Lettings system from mid-September, with allocations and residents expected to begin moving in before the end of the year.
New homes for people on housing list
An Mullach is being delivered directly by Louth County Council through its Accelerated Delivery Programme and is being constructed by Cunningham.
The project forms part of a group of accelerated social housing developments commenced by the Council, alongside schemes in Drogheda and Dunleer.
Funding is being provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage through the Social Housing Capital Investment Programme.
Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council Cllr Dolores Minogue said the development would make an important contribution to housing supply.
“Every new social home delivered makes a real difference to people and families across our county,” she said.
“An Mullach is another example of the progress being made as we continue to increase housing supply. While more work remains, it is encouraging to see high-quality homes being delivered at pace.”
Cathaoirleach of the Ardee Municipal District Cllr Jim Tenanty said he was looking forward to welcoming the new residents.
“Developments like An Mullach help people put down roots and build their futures in an area where they can feel connected and supported,” he said.
“I look forward to seeing these homes completed and allocated, and to seeing the residents of An Mullach become an active part of community life here in Louth Village.”
Choice Based Lettings to begin this month
Louth County Council Director of Services Ger Murphy confirmed that the first properties will be advertised shortly.
“These homes will be ready for allocation before the end of the year. The first properties will be advertised through Choice Based Lettings from mid-September,” he said.
“The system allows eligible applicants to view available properties online and express an interest in homes that meet their needs, giving them greater choice in where they live.”
Lisa Murtagh of Cunningham said the company’s focus has been on delivering energy-efficient homes at the development.
“We look forward to seeing the development through to completion and handing over these new homes in the coming weeks,” she said.
Louth County Council says An Mullach forms part of its wider social housing programme and that it remains on course to deliver 526 new social homes across County Louth during 2026.
