Louth TD welcomes €30 million new scheme to support tillage farmers

Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan, has welcomed the opening of the new National Tillage Sustainability Support Scheme, which will provide targeted assistance to tillage farmers across the country.

A total of €30 million has been allocated in Budget 2026 for the scheme. It will provide a degressive rate of payment to eligible applicants who declared cereal and oilseed rape crops on their 2025 Basic Income Support for Sustainability and other area based applications.

Commenting on the announcement, Deputy Erin McGreehan said:

Tillage farmers are the backbone of the farming sector and have faced significant challenges in recent years, with a range of factors placing sustained pressure on their margins.

This scheme was designed with those challenges in mind, providing tillage farmers with much needed financial support for the season ahead.

This additional funding forms part of the Government’s wider commitment to supporting the tillage sector so that it can grow to its full potential, while also offering the stability and peace of mind that farmers need to plan for the future.
