The Clogherhead Cliff Walk and the Annagassan Walking Trails are to get a much needed upgrade.
They are among the main projects to benefit from a Government allocation of 140,000 euros for County Louth announced today by Dara Calleary, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
There is also money to provide new Blue Flag beach signage at Clogherhead beach and Port.
The allocation of €140,000 for Louth is part of a nationwide allocation of €8.7 million for 221 recreational based projects to help encourage people to spend more of their time outdoors around the country.
Welcoming the funding the Louth Fianna Fail TD Erin McGreehan said: “I am delighted this morning to welcome funding to the tune of €140,000 for County Louth. The inclusion of recreational projects such as these will ensure we can enhance these trails and in essence support the promotion of them throughout our county.
“Funding allocations under this Scheme have made a sizeable difference. When I visit these recreational spaces around Louth, I can see the positive effect the investment has had on these spaces. Giving them a vibrancy and new life
“These spaces are essential for Louth, as they promote local tourism and show off the best of our county.”
Deputy McGreehan is convinced investment in recreational projects have major positive impacts for the wellbeing of the community and boosts local tourism and business.
