Local women premiere their first play at Droichead Arts Centre

Droichead Arts Centre were delighted to support actress and playwright Aoife Hall from Bettystown, East Meath, and her co-writer Ciara Byrne on their first production, Stones and Boiling Water, earlier this week as part of Droichead’s ongoing support for young emerging artists and recent graduates from this region.

Ciara and Aoife are both graduates of The Lir Academy, Ireland’s National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin, and Stones and Boiling Water is their first play which they co-wrote and produced.

The play is loosely based on the experiences of women in Ireland during the 1916 uprising in Dublin.

It follows three women as they struggle with life and their relationships after the effects of the rebellion. Facing love, loss, and heartache while trying to navigate life as female republicans in Ireland under British rule.

Hidden Skirts Theatre is a theatre company also set up by Ciara Byrne and Aoife Hall and their first play “Stones and Boiling Water” premiered earlier this week in Droichead Arts Centre, followed by a run as part of the Sean O’Casey festival in the Sean O’Casey theatre in East Wall, Dublin on the 26th and 27th of September.
