The Drogheda area was subjected to two acts of vandalism and a littering incident over the weekend.
A number of public bins in St Dominic’s Park were burned and a large amount of rubbish was dumped on the lane between Laurence Street and the High Lane beside the old Franciscan Church.
The window of an advertising hoarding at the bus shelter on Main Street, Termonfeckin was smashed around 9pm last Saturday night.
Cllr Pio Smith condemned the incidents and especially the mindless burning of the bins.
He fumed: “Unfortunately some people in Drogheda have no pride in their town. They burn public bins in Dominic’s Park and litter the town centre.
“The graffiti problem alone costs a five figure sum to clean up. Fair play to council outdoor staff who get stuck in on a daily basis cleaning up the mess of others.”
Gardai are investigating the damage at the Termonfeckin bus shelter.
Drogheda Mayor Michelle Hall who lives in the village called on anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Garda in Drogheda or to contact Transport Infrastructure Ireland who installed the bus shelter in the first place.
