Get ready for a weekend of cinematic magic as the Boyne Valley International Film Festival (BVIF) kicks off its fourth annual event, running from Friday, August 8th, through Sunday, August 10th.
The festival promises an unforgettable experience, highlighting both local and international talent with a unique focus on the filmmakers themselves.
Founded by filmmaker Frank, who returned to Ireland from California, the BVIF was created in partnership with the Droichead Arts Centre.
Frank’s vision was to build a festival where the filmmaker comes first, fostering a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere that has quickly made the BVIF a must-attend event.
This year’s festival will screen 50 short films, carefully curated to represent a diverse mix of genres, including sci-fi, drama, comedy, animation, and documentary.
A special highlight is the world premiere of several films, a testament to the festival’s growing reputation.
The lineup includes a wide range of talent, from up-and-coming directors to established names. One such example is the “Filmmaker in Focus,” T.J. O’Grady Peyton, who directed Room Taking, a film shortlisted for an Oscar.
The festival opens Friday with a “Made in the Boyne Valley” program, showcasing local talent from Louth and Meath.
Throughout the weekend, audiences can enjoy film screenings, followed by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers. This provides a crucial opportunity for attendees to connect with the creators and learn about the stories behind their work.
The BVIF is a true community effort, supported by local businesses and organizations like the Boann Distillery, the Droichead Arts Centre, and the Arts Council of Ireland.
As the festival grows, its long-term ambition is to apply for BAFTA-qualifying status and eventually bring its various events, including a horror festival and a youth festival, together into a week-long celebration of cinema.
