Julianstown’s Community garden wins An Taisce International green Flag Award

An Taisce, the national operator of the international Green Flag Award in Ireland, has been delivering the programme since 2016. The scheme recognises public parks, gardens and green spaces that are well-managed and maintained in an environmentally sustainable way.

This year’s Green Flag Awards were announced on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, with 128 parks, gardens, greenways and wildlife sites across Ireland receiving accreditation eight more than last year. The awards ceremony was held at Maynooth University in Co. Kildare.

Among the recipients was the Julianstown Community Garden, represented at the event by Aisling Monahan (Chairperson) and Niamh Bn. Uí Loinsigh (Vice-Chair) of the Julianstown & District Community Association. As well as receiving a Green Flag Award for 2025/26, the garden was also honoured with a Highly Commended award from Biodiversity Ireland.Speaking after the ceremony, Aisling Monahan said:
“A very big thank you to everyone for all your support, ideas and efforts during the past year in helping us achieve the Green Community Amenity Award for our wonderful garden. We are a great team full of talent in so many ways. We have lots of ideas for next year and welcome all input. Julianstown is regarded as a very special community by people near and far and it’s wonderful to be part of it.”
