Irish Language Pop-Up Hub Coming to Scotch Hall for St Patrick’s Festival

Scoil Aonghusa has announced a celebration of the Irish language as part of this year’s St Patrick’s Festival in Drogheda.

In collaboration with Scotch Hall Shopping Centre, the school will host a Pop-Up Irish Language Hub in the centre from Friday 13 March to Tuesday 17 March, open daily from 12pm to 4pm.

The hub will provide a welcoming space for visitors of all ages to experience the Irish language in a relaxed and enjoyable way. Fluent speakers, learners and those simply curious about the language are all invited to drop in and take part.

One of the highlights of the event will be a Leprechaun Hunt as Gaeilge taking place throughout the shopping centre. Families and children are encouraged to search for hidden leprechauns while using Irish words and phrases along the way.

As part of the celebrations, Omniplex will also screen Irish language films across the weekend, giving audiences the opportunity to enjoy cinema through Irish.

Visitors can also take part in a special initiative from Insomnia Coffee, which will offer 50 per cent off coffee to customers who order as Gaeilge. Visitors are invited to enjoy their cupán caife in the Irish Hub.

The event forms part of a wider effort to celebrate and promote the Irish language within the community during the St Patrick’s Festival.

Edel Ní Bhroin, Principal of Scoil Aonghusa said, “We are delighted to bring this Irish language hub to the heart of the community during such an important national celebration. Our aim is to create a positive and welcoming space where people can enjoy using Irish in a natural and fun way. The language belongs to everyone, and initiatives like this help to show that Irish is alive, vibrant, and something we can all take pride in.”

Scoil Aonghusa has invited the local community, families, and visitors to come along, get involved, and celebrate the Irish language together during the St Patrick’s Festival.
