Street sales and community events cancelled for second year running
Could the arrival of spring ever have been more welcome? The sight of daffodils in bloom gives us hope of better days to come and that is something we all need this year.
The Irish Cancer Society has adopted the daffodil for their annual fundraising drive and, thanks to a very active and well organised committee, Drogheda has always boxed well above its weight on Daffodil Day.
Sadly though, for the second year running, they have had to cancel all their street sales of fresh daffodils or daffodil pins, and community events such as the popular fashion show and Cheltenham races lunch.
However, there are still many ways for people in the Drogheda area to get involved with this year’s Daffodil Day which is taking place on Friday March 26, proudly supported by Boots Ireland.
Boots’ 89 stores nationwide, will be raising vital funds by selling Daffodil pins in store and hosting virtual fundraisers across the country. To find your nearest store or to learn more about the support of Daffodil Day, visit www.boots.ie.
Around 845 people in Louth will receive a cancer diagnosis each year and this Daffodil Day is an important chance not only to raise vital funds for services and research but also to send people affected by cancer a message of support in these challenging times.
Throughout the pandemic, the Irish Cancer Society has continued to provide vital services and support to cancer patients and their families across Louth. Services such as Night Nursing, the Freephone Support Line: 1800 200 700 and Volunteer Driver service are available because of the vital funds raised on Daffodil Day.
There are many ways for communities across the country to get involved with Daffodil Day, by hosting virtual fundraisers and collections, purchasing items from the Daffodil Day online shop, or making a donation.
