Hundreds Brave Waves for North East “Dip in the Nip” in Aid of Drogheda’s Oncology Unit

Hundreds of women took to the sea in Co. Meath earlier this week for the Northeast “Dip in the Nip,” raising vital funds for the Oncology Unit at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

Despite strong waves and wild conditions, participants braved the water at a secret beach location, cheered on by volunteers and supporters. The atmosphere was described as electric, filled with courage, laughter, and solidarity.

The fundraiser has already collected thousands of euro, with organisers confident it will surpass last year’s record-breaking €63,000.

“The spirit on the beach was just incredible,” said Liz Summersby of the Oncology Unit and event organiser Karen Healy. “Every single dipper faced down those waves with bravery and heart – and all in the name of supporting people going through the toughest of times.”

One first-time participant called it “fun, uplifting, exhilarating, and surprisingly emotional – one of the best things I’ve ever done.”

Now in its 15th year, the Dip in the Nip continues to be one of the North East’s most unique charity events. Funds raised go directly to NECRET (North East Cancer Research and Education Trust), supporting cancer patients and families through the Oncology Unit at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
