RTÉ broadcaster and commentator Marty Morrissey is calling on people across east Meath and Drogheda to get behind a major national fundraiser for Ireland’s hospices. As ambassador for the annual Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning for Hospice, he described hospice staff as “angels” and said he would want to receive that kind of care himself one day.
The fundraiser, which is organised by Together for Hospice, takes place nationwide on Thursday, September 25. Since 1992, the partnership has raised an incredible €47.6 million for hospice care.
Morrissey, who has personally witnessed the compassionate care provided to loved ones in hospices, said, “Anyone who has visited a loved one in a hospice will be aware of the serenity, peace and joy – the good feeling that a loved one is being really well minded.” He added that the work of nurses and care staff is “truly incredible.”
The PRO of the East Meath Hospice Association, Mena Ball, said the coffee morning is one of their “longest and most-loved fundraisers,” and the support from the community is invaluable. She noted that the funds raised support vital services and initiatives that greatly improve care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
Cól Campbell of Bewley’s Ireland said the company is honoured to again support the event, which is recognised as the country’s most successful charity partnership.
