History and heritage walking tour of Drogheda

Presented by community historian Brendan Matthews, the first Walk n talk `History & Heritage Tour` of 2023 will take place on Wednesday evening, May 17th beginning at 7.30pm on the green space area at the top of Magdalene Street adjacent to Magdalene Tower.

Brendan will recall the visit to the Magdalene Tower by William Wilde, father of Oscar Wilde, in 1849. The Walk n Talk Tour will then proceed down King Street to the former Christian Brothers School, now Scholars Restaurant, where he will tell the fascinating tale on John Philip Holland, who was the inventor of the first real submarine.

The Tour will then proceed to the lower end of King Street where Brendan will speak about the building of the new Technical School in 1936 and how it enlightened this particular area of Drogheda.

The Walk n Talk will then move the short distance to the location of the old Presbyterian Church at Palace Street where the tale of the building of this Church will be told.

The walk n Talk will then finish up at the spectacular St. Lawrence Medieval Town Gate.

There is no Charge for this event; however, Donations for the continued Research & Study of Community History will be greatly received on the evening.
