The Glen Emmets GAA club in Tullyallen is devastated and heartbroken following the sudden death of its former chairperson Anthony Carolan.
He held the chairperson role from 2014 to 2017 and was also treasurer and a committee member for many years.
In a tribute published on social media, the Emmets said: He was a great servant to our club. He was always one of the first to say ‘ I am available’ when we needed help with fundraising drives, setting up events, parking stewards, umpires, gate collections, getting sponsorship and selling tickets. Anthony also got involved in acting in movies in both our Oskars fundraisers. Anthony’s dad Pat, was also involved in committees in the early days of our club.
He was a successful coach with Glen Emmet juvenile teams over the years especially at under fifteen and under 16 level in 2014 where they won Division 3 in both age groups and his son Ryan was part of the team.
The Glen Emmets added:” He was a gem, a gent and had a great sense of humour. He and Margaret were regular fixtures at the spectators rail in Cusack Park to cheer on his daughters Rebecca and Aine who both play on our adult team.
In more recent years he was on the sideline watching his grandchildren , Kyle, Under 12s, Darcie, under 9s and Kayden, under 7s learning their skills.
All who worked alongside him on committees and cheered alongside him on sidelines offer sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
The Glen Emmets Sheelan Cup game against St Patricks and due to be held on Friday night is now postponed as a mark of respect.
