Get Ready to Lip Sync! ‘Simply the Best’ Fundraiser Returns for Drogheda Women’s and Children’s Refuge

Drogheda is gearing up for the third annual “Simply the Best” Lipsync show, a fundraiser in aid of the Drogheda Women’s and Children’s Refuge Centre.

The popular event takes place this Saturday, August 30th, at McHugh’s Music Venue, with doors opening at 8 pm and the show kicking off at 9 pm.

The show was the brainchild of Brian Howard-Andrews, a former Tina Turner impersonator. He started the event three years ago in memory of Tina Turner, aiming to raise funds for a local charity that embodies her message of strength and speaking out against domestic violence.

This year’s show has a Live Aid anniversary theme and promises a night of fun, entertainment, and crowd-pleasing performances. With Ken Murray as MC, contestants will reenact iconic acts from the 80s musical event, impersonating stars like Madonna, Bryan Adams, Freddie Mercury, George Michael, and Elton John.

The event has already raised an impressive €22,000 for the local refuge from its previous two shows, and organisers hope to fill the venue once again. In addition to the performances, there will be a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses to help raise more funds on the night.

“I would like to thank all the contestants for their hard work, the generosity of the local business community for their donations, and a special thanks to Alan Cooney of McHugh’s for his continued support,” said Brian Howard-Andrews. “A big thank you also goes to the Robinson School of Irish Dance for their hard work and support.”

Tickets are selling fast but are still available from McHugh’s, Daybreak shop in Donore Village, or by contacting Brian through his Facebook page, Brian Howard Andrews. If you can’t make it, you can still support the cause by donating online. Search for “simply the best live aid lipsync” on GoFundMe.

Come out for an unforgettable night of music, support the contestants, vote for your favourite, and help a life-changing local charity.
