Gardaí Treat Disappearance of Drogheda Man Anthony Hanlon as Suspicious

Gardai are now treating the disappearance of a local man over a year ago as suspicious.

A senior investigating officer has now been appointed into the case of Anthony Hanlon,39 who was last seen alive getting on an Expressway bus in Dublin on December 3 last.

Prior to that he was seen walking along the North Strand around 2.30pm two days earlier on December 1, last year.

Mr Hanlon had been living in Drogheda for a while and before that resided in Ardee. He was said by Gardai to have been extremely well liked.

Officers now have two theories about why he is missing, either something extremely sinister happened to him or he fell into the river Boyne.

An intensive search of the river was carried out last February led by the Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery Service from the Curley Hole at Oldbridge up to the mouth of the river at Baltray, but he wasn’t found.

Originally from Ferryman’s Crossing in Dublin 1, Anthony was known to regularly visit Dublin .

His family were informed that week that Gardai now believe his disappearance may be suspicious and that a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed ..

His sister Jessica fears something sinister has happened to him and the family have put up a 20,000 euro reward for anyone with information about him

She said he would never vanish for so long without contacting his family.
