Flooding around Oldbridge as High tides and storm Claudia hit Battle of the Boyne Area

Many of the roads leading to the Battle of the Boyne Centre at Oldbridge were flooded today because of high tides and heavy rain.

Water levels on both the river Boyne and the adjoining canal were running extremely high.

Motorists were warned to be careful and to stay away from the area. Several different floods were reported by drivers.

The whole of the north east was hit by the remnants of Storm Claudia and a weather warning had been issued by the Met Office.

The Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery Service said they were on standby in case members of the public needed their help.

It said its flood Rescue Standard Operating Procedure is now active and urged the public to take necessary precautions as the storm approaches.

This includes taking steps to protect your property from potential flooding and removing leaves and debris from shores, gutters and drains to help prevent blockages.

It also suggested people keep their pets indoors, keep an eye out for vulnerable neighbours and make sure your mobile phones are fully charged in case of unexpected power cuts. If you need help call them on 041-9804876, the line is open 24 hours.
