Louth County Council has announced a major reduction in pay-parking fees this Christmas as part of its ongoing efforts to support local businesses and encourage shoppers to stay local during the festive season.
From 1 December 2025 to 5 January 2026, parking charges across urban areas of Dundalk and Drogheda will be halved, with the hourly rate dropping from €1.30 to just 65c. The reduced fee applies to both on-street parking and all Council-managed car parks and will be clearly noted on pay-parking machines.
Some long-term car parks will remain at existing rates. In Drogheda, charges will stay the same at Windmill Road, North Strand, Dublin Road, and the long-term car parks at Donore Road and Trinity Street. In Dundalk, long-term rates at Linenhall Street, Long Walk, and Ramparts Road will also remain unchanged.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Seán Kelly welcomed the initiative, calling it a “practical and timely measure” to boost local trade during the busiest retail period of the year.
“By reducing parking charges, we’re making it easier and more affordable for people to shop local, support small businesses, and enjoy all that Dundalk and Drogheda have to offer this Christmas,” he said.
Council Chief Executive David Conway said the annual incentive is part of a broader approach to strengthening economic activity and improving the visitor experience.
“We encourage everyone to make use of the reduced parking fees and support local businesses throughout the festive season,” he added.
