A Dundalk cannabis seizure worth an estimated €1.66 million has led to two arrests as part of a joint cross-border operation involving Gardaí, Revenue and the PSNI.
A total of 119kg of cannabis was seized in the Dundalk area on Wednesday, 26th August following the interception of a vehicle.
The operation involved Revenue Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the PSNI Organised Crime Unit.
The male (aged in his 40s) arrested in connection with this investigation has since been charged.
He is due to appear before Cavan District Court today, Friday 28th August 2026 at 2:00pm.
Follow-up searches in Northern Ireland
Further searches were subsequently carried out in the Newtownabbey area of Northern Ireland.
The PSNI Organised Crime Unit seized an estimated:
- 45kg of cannabis
- 0.5kg of suspected cocaine, subject to analysis
- 22 imitation firearms
- approximately £25,000 in cash
A man in his 30s was arrested and was being detained by the PSNI.
Revenue said investigations are ongoing.
Joint cross-border operation
The operation was intelligence-led and involved agencies on both sides of the border.
Revenue’s statement said the 119kg of cannabis recovered in Dundalk had an estimated value of €1,666,000.
The seizure comes amid a number of significant organised crime investigations in Louth and Meath this year.
No further details have been released regarding the identities of the two men arrested in the latest operation.
Investigations are ongoing.
