Drogheda United face Waterford in final game before mid-season break

Drogheda United return to action on Friday evening when they face Waterford in their final game before the mid-season break.

The Boynesiders go into the match following a 1-1 draw with Dundalk in last week’s Louth Derby at Sullivan & Lambe Park.

Dundalk took the lead after 18 minutes through Gbemi Arubi after the striker was played through on goal by Daryl Horgan.

Drogheda improved significantly in the second half and equalised on 57 minutes when Leo Burney rose highest to head home a Brandon Kavanagh corner.

The home side pushed for a winner late on, with Mark Doyle going close after his sliding effort drifted just wide following a strong run from Kieran Cruise.

Drogheda and Waterford have already met twice this season, with both sides winning their home fixtures. Kevin Doherty’s side recorded a 2-0 win at Sullivan & Lambe Park in February before Waterford responded with a 2-1 victory at the RSC earlier this month.

In team news, Scott Brady, Owen Lambe, Bridel Bosakani, James Bolger, Conor Keeley and Jason Bucknor remain sidelined through injury, while Warren Davis is doubtful after picking up an injury during the first half of the Louth Derby.
