Drogheda Tackles Social Exclusion with New Football & Wellness Programme

 
A new football programme kicked off today as part of the Make Louth Healthy campaign.
 
Run by Louth County Council it will be held over ten weeks at the Boyne Rovers FC grounds at Parkview in Drogheda.
 
The new initiative is being organised in collaboration with the Irish Homeless Street League – an organisation that uses the power of sport to transform the people who have found themselves affected by social exclusion.
 
The players playing in the Drogheda football project will be drawn from local services including the Red Door Project for recovering addicts and Drogheda Homeless Aid.
 
The coaching sessions will be led by Aoife Burns , Football and Responsibility Officer at Drogheda United.
 
A six week Healthy Food Made Easy course will be run in conjunction with the football programme.
 
This is being organised by Healthy Louth and the HSE and will provide the participants with practical nutritional advice and knowledge to support healthier lifestyles.
 
Speaking at the launch the Deputy Mayor of Drogheda Cllr Declan Power said: “This programme is a powerful and positive initiative brought to Drogheda through the Healthy Louth Campaign. The ten week programme is about more than football – it’s about well being”.
