A small but moving ceremony took place yesterday afternoon in Fair Street to remember the people who lost their lives during the Covid 19 Pandemic and to pay tribute to frontline workers and all those who helped deal with the challenges it posed.
The attendance at what was organised as part of the National Ceremony of Remembrance and Reflection was pitifully small due to a lack of advertising for the event, it was mainly Councillors, Council officials and health workers present as the national anthem was played and the tricolour lowered to half-mast.

There was some lovely singing from Lisa McGuiness and Drogheda actor Niall O’Brien read a poem called “Take Care” which was written by Michael D. Higgins. (see below).
There followed a wreath laying ceremony in which included wreaths from Council Cathaoirleach Councillor Pio Smith, Mayor of Drogheda, James Byrne, Councillor Jim Tenanty, the cathaoirleach of the Ardee Municipal District and Aine Davern the Assistant Director of Nursing at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
