Want to see the next Rory McIlroy or Tiger Woods? Get down to County Louth golf club in Baltray over the next few days.
The world renowned links is this week hosting the prestigious R&A Boys Amateur Championships which will have 128 of the best young golfers from around the globe participating.
There will be plenty of local interest with the talented Adam Fahey from Termonfeckin and Louis Goodman from Baltray flying the flag for Ireland.
Adam grew up in Seapoint, went to school in the village and now is a member of Portmarnock.
He shot an amazing six under par round this morning and was up near the top of the leaderboard.
This is the second time the open championship for boys has been held in Ireland having previously been held in Royal Portrush in 2018.
The championship has two qualifying rounds ending this evening and then the top 64 will revert to matchplay over the rest of the week finishing with the Final on Saturday.
Previous winners of the tournament include Sergio Garcia and Matthew Fitzpatrick, both Major champions.
The manager of County Louth golf club Ryan Donagher said: “The club is honoured to be hosting such an event, and is the first club in the Republic of Ireland to do it. It is very exciting especially when you consider the calibre of players coming to play from over 30 countries.”
He praised the club members for their support and over 150 have volunteered to help run the competition.
Mr Donagher added: “The members have been fantastic. We have a volunteer information evening and we have over 150 members registered to volunteer and the R&A are delighted because they said they have never seen a club have so many members involved in an event.”
