The Drogheda Drogheda Cycling Group held a community cycle on Sunday last, 22nd May, as part of National Bike Week.
They assembled at Courtyard Coffee and after the customary bike check over departed for a scenic cycle out to Baltray.
“Our group ranged from seven years old to those a lot older, but still young at heart! Said a group spokesperson.
“We were accompanied by members of the Gardai as we travelled along the Boyne out to Baltray. It is one of the most scenic routes in Drogheda and travelling by bicycle allows you to take in the view and the fresh air. The road being flat is also a bonus!
“Our group travelled slowly towards Baltray and stopped at one point to allow (motorised) traffic to pass us by. The weather was sunny, the road flat, the cyclists were in a happy mood, sure what more would you want?
“On arriving at Baltray our younger cyclists checked out the kids playground while the older cyclists relaxed on the picnic tables. After a 15 minute break we gathered our group together and cycled slowly back towards COurtyard Coffee where some cakes and coffee were provided to all our participants.
“Our group will be having further community cycles and bike clinics during the summer months – details will be posted on our social media channels in due course.
“Don’t worry if you haven’t cycled in a while – we check out each bike before each cycle (just be sure to arrive early) and a free hi vis vest is provided to each participant. Just don’t forget your helmet!”
