Don’t Throw Bouquets Exhibition by Eilish McCann at Droichead Arts Centre

Eilish McCann is an artist based in County Cavan who works in oil and acrylic on canvas and paper. Her paintings move between close observation of everyday life and imaginative reinterpretations of classical painting. Don’t Throw Bouquets takes its title from a Sinatra song, a rendition from the musical Oklahoma!, sung by her father around the house. The tune resonates throughout this body of work, reflecting the transitional states of grief and ageing.

After many years away, the artist has returned to her border hometown in Cavan. In a presentation of new work alongside selected earlier paintings, McCann brings her past and present selves into conversation. The works explore both the tender and sharp disorientation of loss, as well as the complex emotions that surface when returning to the place that shaped us.

In 2025, McCann received the Professional Artist Award from Cavan Arts and Cavan County Council.

The First Solo Award offers support and funding at a key point in the careers of professional artists in the North-East Region who have yet to present a solo exhibition.
