DkIT awarded over €1.3 million in Devolved Capital Grant funding

Funding announced today will benefit 19 higher education institutions nationwide, including 12 universities, with Dundalk Institute of Technology set to receive more than €1.3 million.

Fianna Fáil TD Erin McGreehan has welcomed the allocation of €1,366,498 for DkIT under the Devolved Capital Grants scheme, announced by the Minister for Higher Education, James Lawless.

The Devolved Capital Grant provides funding to support a range of works across higher education campuses, including small scale building works, health and safety improvements, energy efficiency measures, access upgrades, refurbishment projects and the purchase or renewal of equipment, including ICT.

The funding for DkIT forms part of an overall package of more than €41 million being distributed to 19 higher education institutions across the country. This includes 12 universities, two institutes of technology and five smaller colleges.

Welcoming the announcement, Deputy McGreehan said the investment will help improve sustainability and standards across campuses.

“I am absolutely delighted to be informed today by my party colleague and Minister for Higher Education that DkIT has received €1,366,498 in funding under the Devolved Capital Grant scheme.

“This funding will not only help drive and deliver a more sustainable campus into the future but will ensure the campus will be upheld to the highest possible standards. I am delighted that DkIT can now move forward and future proof their campuses with this funding, providing them with any essential upgrades they need.”

She added that Ireland has a serious pipeline of talented students coming through and said future students deserve the same or better opportunities and resources as they progress through the education system.

“The provision of this funding will further enhance DkIT’s campus allowing them to invest significantly on any minor capital works to ensure the infrastructure on site is fit-for-purpose and remain aligned with climate objectives. We understand the challenges that exist for our third level institutions in meeting climate targets, and this grant is there to support them.”

Concluding, Deputy McGreehan said Ireland continues to place a strong emphasis on education and investment in the third level sector.

“In Ireland, we have always taken great pride in our education system, with us being one of the best educated countries in the world,” she said.

“Fianna Fáil is the party of education. We will continue to provide the necessary resources and funding required to continue to invest in our third level sector by ensuring they have the best facilities and equipment.”
