Dead Sheep sighted in Boyne in Drogheda over last three weeks

In a grisly turn of events, several dead sheep have been spotted in the River Boyne and along its banks in recent weeks.

Councillor Kevin Callan, who has raised the issue with the County Council, said this was a troubling issue and that the Council should find out where the animals have come from and if there are any issues that might the impact the quality of water in and around the town.

“I am notifying both the Councils Environment and Veterinary sections to see if this matter can be looked into, it is concerning that this has happened not once but at least three times in local waters and joggers reporting the sightings to me in recent days.

“As the river runs through Meath, we may need to liaise with the relevant sections of Meath County Council” Callan added.

“There are obvious health risks involved with such stock decomposing on the river banks and we need to see the extent of the problem which may involve liaising with river rescue groups as well”.

The most recent sighting of dead sheep in the Boyne was yesterday, Monday 6th November, at St Dominic’s Bridge.
