Council’s draft budget includes €105m for Housing, €60m for PANCR

The Chief Executive of Louth County Council, Joan Martin, will put a draft budget to the tune of €158.4 million for 2023 before the elected members for adoption at their meeting on Monday 21st November.

The Draft Budget which sets out a wide-ranging work programme for the year ahead provides for expenditure of €158.4 million, which is an increase of some €18.2 million on 2022.

Within the Draft provision of a three-year Capital Programme of circa €750 million is set out with a projected spend in 2023 of almost €213 million, subject to approval by Members and funding.

By far the biggest item on the Capital Programme is €105 million on Housing made up of 52 projects comprised of a mix of individual and multi-unit accommodation.

Some €60 million of the budget is to be spent on roads included the long awaited Port Access Northern Cross Route.

Another €19 million is to go on Buildings including works on the regeneration of Ardee Castle, and provision of a new Fire Station in Dunleer.

Also in Dunleer, €10 million has been listed under the heading of “Town Projects” which includes the Dunleer Town Centre first plan.

€7 million is to be spent on Operations which includes footpaths, bridges, and the FASTER project facilitating an Electric Vehicle Network.

A budget of €2.6 million is listed for Surface Water / Flooding & Coastal Erosion measures to future proof against Climate Change, while other Climate Action Measures plan for funding of almost half a million, while Landfills will cost another €1.3 million.

Recreation and Amenities keeping Louth a beautiful place to live, work and play are allotted an estimated €7.5 million.

The Draft Budget document as presented to Members set out some of the many and varied works, initiatives and services provided by Louth County Council during 2022 and highlighted plans for 2023 and beyond.

Commenting on the draft Budget to be presented to Members, Ms Martin said she looked forward to working in partnership with the Members in 2023 to deliver a high-quality public service to the people of Louth.
