The community of Louth has been left in deep shock and sadness following the deaths of Mark, Louise and Evan O’Connor at their home in Drumgowna, near Tallanstown, on Monday, 29th September.
Gardaí confirmed that three people – two men and a woman – were found deceased at a residential property shortly after 10am. A man in his 30s, known to the victims, was arrested at the scene and remains in Garda custody. The area has been preserved for technical examination, and post-mortem examinations are due to take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Mark and Louise, who had celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary earlier this month, were founder parents of Drogheda ABACAS Special School, where their son Evan was one of the first pupils. In a statement, the school described them as “passionate advocates for their son Evan and for all autistic people,” adding that their tireless campaigning and fundraising left “a legacy to ABACAS and to autistic people that many, many families owe them a debt of gratitude.”
North East Runners, where Mark was a much-loved member since 2018, also paid tribute. The club said his kindness, commitment and spirit “enriched our entire community,” and extended heartfelt sympathies to his sisters, Anita and Ruth, who are also members.
Louth TD Erin McGreehan expressed her condolences, saying the local community is in “unwavering grief, shock and disbelief” at the loss.
Gardaí continue to appeal to the public for information in relation to the incident.
