Cllr Stephen McKee Calls for More Dog Warden Services in East Meath

South Drogheda & East Meath Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee is calling for more dog warden services to be assigned to the area, citing an increasing problem with dog control and fouling.

“We need more funding in recognition of the increasing demands around dog control,” Cllr McKee stated. “I’m calling on additional funding to be made available to the East Meath area, where we have a large population, a high number of dogs and a long stretch of beach also.”

The councillor highlighted that he has heard from many people about bad experiences with poorly controlled dogs, which has caused some to be afraid to visit the beach.

He also raised concerns about dangerous breeds roaming freely without muzzles, both on the beach and in local estates. “We need much stricter enforcement of the Council’s own bye-laws. It is unfair particularly on young children and senior citizens who are most vulnerable,” he said.

Cllr McKee, a dog-owner himself, concluded by saying that while he wants the area’s beaches and streets to be accommodating for all, he is concerned that there is still a long way to go to improve the situation.
