The new Tesco store being built on the M1 Retail Park in Mell is expected to open by Christmas.
Work on the project is continuing at pace and is well on schedule. It is on a new site being opened right next to the existing Lidl store in the popular retail park.
The new premises are expected to be handed over to Tesco after the summer and the supermarket giant will then begin hiring staff and fitting the new building out.
Tesco says Drogheda is one of the fastest growing areas of Ireland and is now even bigger than Waterford.
They have a huge superstore on the southside off the Donore Road but nothing on the Northside of the town up to now.
There are over 10,000 people currently living within five to 10 minutes of the new Tesco Store and many more moving into the locality with all the new homes being built on the Ballymakenny road area.
The M1 Retail Park is now one of the busiest in town. Louth County Council was recently asked by the Deputy Mayor of Drogheda, Mr. Declan Power to get a second entrance put into the park to relieve increasing traffic congestion.
