Councillor Kevin Callan has asked Louth County Council to instigate a programme to ensure that all of the disabled parking spaces in Drogheda and across the county are clearly identifiable.
Councillor Callan raised the matter with the senior management team at the March meeting of the Council.
He said that in many cases the disabled spaces had been become unrecognisable and drivers were park in them because they were unaware they are designated.
“As a county we need to ensure that these spaces are clearly identifiable as disabled reserved” Callan said.
He added that during covid there was an issue with road works and marking not being carried out but he asked the council to do an audit of all of the disabled spaces and put together a programme that prioritises their remarking in the coming weeks.
Councillor Callan flagged spaces at locations such as Fair Street outside the council’s offices and St Dominic’s Park.
Responding to Councillor Callan, Willie Walsh of the Council’s Operations Department said that they would collate the list and look at prioritising the works subject to budget.
Thanking the Council Councillor Callan said he would continue to liaise with officials to ensure that progress on this important issue is made.
