An Ghrian Sauna has quickly become one of the most calming and uplifting additions to the Termonfeckin and greater Drogheda area, offering people a place to unplug, breathe and reconnect. For co-founders Tom and Ross, the idea was simple. Create a space where people of all ages could slow down, enjoy nature and feel part of a community. Regular sauna users themselves, they had seen the rise in wellness activities and felt the region was ready for something new. “We believed the area needed another option for people to enjoy,” they said. “Something social, healthy and accessible.” Termonfeckin felt like the perfect fit.
A Location Made for Switching Off
Their chosen spot in An Grianán could not be better suited. Both Tom and Ross have long used the area for running because of its mix of woodlands, beachfront and easy access from the village. “There is so much happening in An Grianán that ties into an outdoor sauna facility,” they explained. Their neighbours include An Grianán Garden Centre, the ICA College, Tredagh Boxing Club and Termonfeckin Tennis Club. The beach is only a short walk away. “These clubs and businesses have been incredibly sound. We would be nowhere without them.”
What to Expect When You Step Inside
Visitors can expect a friendly welcome, an inviting atmosphere and of course a very warm sauna. It is a place to reconnect with friends or strike up conversations with people you have never met before. Alongside regular shared sessions, they offer group bookings, yoga, sound healing and collaboration deals with a run club, which adds a dynamic mix of experiences for anyone looking to boost their wellbeing.
The benefits speak for themselves. Regular sauna users often notice improvements in cardiovascular health, sleep, muscle recovery and circulation. Mentally, the combination of heat, cold and nature releases endorphins that lift mood and reduce stress. The team says their personal favourite benefit is the social side. “The sauna revives the lost art of having a good chat with someone new.”
Building Something New for the Community
Like any new business, there was a learning curve. In the early days, every small problem felt huge. “We were stressed when things didn’t go to plan. Now we realise there is a solution to almost anything if you ask the right people for help. Or maybe we are just calmer now from using the sauna so much.”
Their proudest moment came early on. “Getting bookings from people outside our friends and family circle was a big moment. We were pacing up and down a tiny office with nerves and excitement.” That buzz has only grown with the support of the local community. “People are delighted to see something fresh in the area. Clubs, teams and individuals have been amazing. They come to us with ideas and ways to bring the whole experience to the next level.”
Looking Ahead to a Bright Year
Tom and Ross have no shortage of plans but are taking things one step at a time. Memberships, combo packages with neighbouring sports and wellness facilities and plenty of new ideas are already in motion for the new year. One thing they wish more people knew is how manageable that cold plunge really is. “It is never as bad as you think. Dunk yourself in and you will feel unreal after.”
