Brú na Bóinne, a local Irish dance and music group, has received glowing praise after representing Ireland at the 44th International Folklore Festival of Extremadura in Spain.
A tribute from the festival described the group’s performance as “pure energy and rhythm,” noting their “unmistakable Celtic dance, precise tapping, contagious smiles and a magical connection with the audience.”
Based in Badajoz for the duration of the festival, Brú na Bóinne performed at several venues, including the Teatro Lopez da Alaya, as well as in the towns of San Vincente de Alcantara and Fuente de Cantos.
Lolo Robinson, the group’s director, explained that Brú na Bóinne was formed in 2002 to represent Ireland at the Interceltic Festival of Avilés.
Since then, they have performed at festivals across Europe every year. The group is now on its second generation of dancers, with some members’ parents having been part of the original lineup.
Composed mostly of teenagers from the Robinson School of Irish Dancing, the group is known for its professionalism and enthusiasm for sharing Irish culture.
At this year’s festival, they shared the stage with groups from Portugal, Spain, Taiwan, and Uzbekistan.
The group’s musicians hail from Louth, Meath, and Scotland, making Brú na Bóinne a truly international collaboration. The members are already looking forward to where their music and dancing will take them in 2026.
