Boyne ACs senior athletes were out in force once again on Saturday last, as they took to the roads in the picturesque village of Carlingford for the annual Half Marathon.
This popular event always attracts a large crowd and this year was no exception. Despite the bright sunshine, there was a biting chill as the runners converged at the start line, all anxious to get underway.
As the starters whistle blew, over 700 competitors made their way under the gantry. Once off the coast, the wind chill abated, and the runners enjoyed glorious sunshine as they made their way along the first 5k of hills, and yet more hills, a tough start to the 21k distance.
The route flattened somewhat at the 10k point, and then it was back into the wind as the runners made their way along the coast, towards Carlingford and the finish line.
Crossing the line first for Boyne was Mark Dowling, who was delighted with a new PB time of 1.41.33, a super achievement on such a tough course.
Rebecca Carolan was next home for the club, finishing in 1.46.11, while Barry Sullivan ran an impressive 1.47.09, despite carrying an injury.
Ola Raji certainly proved that she is back on form as she raced home in 1.54.15, while Catherine Russell was delighted to break that elusive 2hr mark, finishing in a new PB time of 1.59.47.
Nicky Veale acted as pacer on the day for her sister, with both crossing the line in 2.10.
