The owner of Scotch Hall is looking to build a new hotel and 172 apartments on the derelict site next to the Marsh Road shopping centre.
Cinema tycoon Paul Anderson paid 21 million euros for the complex in 2023.
One of his companies, Hall Scotch Venture 2, has applied to Louth County Council seeking planning permission for the two separate developments on the vast site.
It is seeking to build five separate apartment blocks, a creche and three retail units at a cost of 36 million euros about 100 metres from the shopping mall.
The proposed new hotel which is badly needed in the town will consist of 107 bedrooms, a lobby, bar and dining area. Car parking spaces will be provided at the existing shopping centre car park.
The two applications have been welcomed by local councillors with Cllr Pio Smith saying it is good news for Drogheda.
The Anderson family own the Omniplex cinemas nationwide and the new cinema has been a great addition to Scotch Hall.
The existing D Hotel at the town’s main shopping centre has not been available to the public for over 20 months and since it signed a contract to cater for international protection applicants only.
That contract is due to expire next March,2026, and it is unclear whether it will be renewed.
