Another Town Centre Loss as The Gift Box Announces June Closure

One of Drogheda’s most popular shops, the Gift Box in Laurence Street is to close, delivering another devastating retail blow to the town.

The shock announcement that they plan to cease trading in June was made by the owners on social media yesterday.

One of the reasons they gave is a drop in footfall in the town centre, and the move follows the recent closure of Dunnes Stores, Staffords Deli, and Kevin McAllister Electrical on West Street. The Gift Box was a popular place to purchase furnishings and household gifts.

In a statement the shop said: The management of the Gift Box would like to announce the closing of their business in June,2026.

It has been an absolute pleasure to look after all of our lovely customers whom we have come to know over the past fifteen years. During this time, we have gotten to know many of our valued customers and their families.

Due to other work commitments and lack of footfall in the town, we feel that the time has come for us to say goodbye.

Vouchers and Clubs can be used in the coming weeks and months as we are fully stocked. Our doors are still open, and we will be delighted to look after each and every one. Again, we would like to reiterate our appreciation.
