There’s a treat in store next month for lovers of a good story when Mary Kate O Flanagan brings her show “Making A Show Of Myself”, a celebration by the power and magic of storytelling, to the Droichead Arts Centre.
For her show Mary dips into her collection of award winning stories and she’ll be telling some of them at Droichead Arts Centre on March 21.
Making a Show of Myself is a one-woman piece of theatre about the power and magic of true life stories. It earned glowing plaudits from the critics and standing ovations from audiences in its first sellout run at Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin in 2023. It returned to Smock Alley in 2024 and is currently on tour around Ireland and beyond.
Making a Show of Myself is a collaboration between Mary Kate, an award-winning storyteller and professional story expert and Will O’Connell, one of Ireland’s most beloved theatre makers – actor, pianist, composer and director.
Mary Kate’s stories have been winning storyslams for nearly a decade; for a sense of what to expect from the show, listen to the story that won The Moth Grand Slam in Los Angeles in 2016.
The theme that night was Breaking Ground. It’s been named by many as their favourite Moth story ever. On Father’s Day 2023 it went viral on TikTok, getting over 1.3 million views in 48 hours and a lot of love in the comments section.
“This life-affirming show is a good antidote right now in a world that seems impossibly difficult and cruel.”
Review by Katy Hayes (Irish Independent).
