A Poem for Saint Patrick’s Day

By David P. Carroll.

To mark Saint Patrick’s Day, Drogheda Life reader David P. Carroll has shared a special poem celebrating Irish traditions, community and the joy of the day.

The poem captures the spirit of the day through parades, music, shamrocks and the warmth of family and friends, both at home and across the world

On Saint Patrick’s Day the children laugh,
Their joy carried on the morning air.
The world awakens bright and new,
With peace and love flowing everywhere.

Green ribbons dance along the streets,
Daffodils smile in golden light,
Shamrocks spread their velvet green
In the soft and shining springtime bright.

In village hearts the stories live
Of Saint Patrick, brave and bold,
Ancient tales passed down through time,
Forever treasured, forever told.

Parades march proudly down the roads,
From Drogheda to Dundalk town,
To Tullyallen and far beyond,
Where Irish pride is all around.

We raise our glasses high with cheer
To friends and family far and near,
With warmth and kindness in our hearts
And love that grows throughout the year.

Irish music fills the air,
Laughter rings for all to hear,
For Saint Patrick’s Day belongs to all,
To you and me and far and near.

So blessings travel round the world
On this bright Saint Patrick’s Day,
May joy and peace be with you all
And happiness light your way.
