Louth/Monaghan/Cavan See Decline in Sexual Assaults, According to Justice Minister

A total of 27 incidents of sexual assault were reported to the Gardai in the Louth/Monaghan/ Cavan Division last year. 
 
This is down ten cases on the previous year, 2023, when 37 such attacks were occurred.
 
There were 13 such sexual assaults incidents also reported last year in the Meath /Westmeath Division -a drop of 14 attacks.
 
The figures were released by the Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan in response to a parliamentary question from the Aontu leader and Meath West TD Peadar Toibin.
 
Minister O’Callaghan in reaction to the figures said:” The Government is absolutely committed to tackling all forms of sexual violence.
 
“The third national strategy on Domestic, Sexual and Gender -Based Violence ( DSGBV) called Zero Tolerance, sets out a five year programme of reform to achieve a society which does not accept DSGBV or the attitudes which underpin it.
 
“A key objective of the strategy is to encourage victims to come forward and report the heinous crimes being committed against them.”
 
He also confirmed there is now a Divisional Protective Service Unit ( DPSUs) in every Garda Division.
 
Their task is to help the victims of domestic abuse or sexual violence when they contact  the Gardai that they are met with a consistently high standard of specialist, sensitive, professional and expert assistance.
